About the Del Mar Village Association

The Del Mar Village Association (DVMA) is an nonprofit public benefit organization made up of Del Mar residents, downtown business owners and commercial property owners who are dedicated to working together to enhance the vitality of Del Mar Village while preserving the community’s history and unique character. Recently, the DMVA adopted the tenets of the Main Street program, which was established by the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 1979. The Main Street Four-Point Approach™ is a community-driven, comprehensive methodology used to revitalize older, traditional business districts throughout the United States.  It is a common-sense way to address the variety of issues and problems that face traditional business districts.  The underlying premise of the Main Street approach is to encourage economic development within the context of historic preservation in ways appropriate to today's marketplace. The Main Street Approach advocates a return to community self-reliance, local empowerment, and the rebuilding of traditional commercial districts based on their unique assets: distinctive architecture, a pedestrian-friendly environment, personal service, local ownership, and a sense of community.

The DMVA produces popular Del Mar community events such as the Taste and Art Stroll in Del Mar, Summer Solstice, Summer Beach Festival, Holiday Wonderland and Halloween and provides community services such downtown valet parking, a summer visitor center, downtown event banner program, public art program, building facade and signage program and an ombudsman for downtown issues. DMVA has created a logo and identity for Del Mar along with colorful banners, maps and entrance signage for Del Mar that showcases this new identity. In addition to these efforts, the DMVA sponsors a Visitor and Community Guide distributed throughout San Diego, networks with the San Diego North Convention & Visitors Bureau, and develops new an innovative marketing ideas for the village of Del Mar.

The DMVA has formed four key committees, each focusing on four crucial elements of the Main Street model. They are the Design Committee, the Economic Restructuring Committee, the Promotion Committee and the Executive Board Committee. Each committee is chaired by a DMVA board member and all committees are always looking for participation from interested Del Mar residents, business owners and commercial property owners.
